Vector glyphs directly represent vector quantities in a flow solution, such as velocity, using arrows whose point indicates direction and whose size indicates the value of the quantity at that point. Because they include direction, they can indicate where flow might be separating or recirculating.

  1. Click the Vector icon in the visualization toolbar. This will open up the tool in the properties panel.

  2. Select the desired Vector Field.

  3. Adjust the Scale Factor by either manually typing in a new value or clicking the .5x or 2x buttons to halve or double, respectively, the existing value. This factor affects how big the arrows will appear.

  4. (Optional) Check Fixed Length. If checked, the vector glyphs are a fixed length. If unchecked, the length of vectors is scaled by both the scale factor and the magnitude of the vector.

  5. Set the Sampling Method:

    1. Uniform Spatial Bounds requires the Number of Points within the domain.

    2. Every Nth Point requires a value for N, which represents the number of points between each vector. This method will sample the points based on the mesh resolution. Highly resolved areas of the mesh will be sampled more often.

  6. Click the check button to apply the settings.

  7. Navigate to the Visualizations section of the control panel and select the Vector visualization that you just created.

  8. Use the dropdown menus in the Display section to adjust the final appearance of the vector.
