Slice
Updated over a week ago

Similar to clipping, you can use the Slice visualization to inspect the mesh or results along intermediate surfaces in the mesh.

To create a slice:

  1. Click the slice icon in the visualization toolbar.

  2. You will see a cutting plane in the 3D Viewer. Set the location and orientation of this plane using the Origin and Normal fields or use the widget in the 3D Viewer to move the slice into the desired position.

  3. Click the check button to apply the settings.

  4. Navigate to the Visualizations section of the control panel and select the Slice visualization you just created.

  5. Use the dropdown menus in the Display section to adjust the final appearance of the slice.

In contrast to clipping, slicing only creates a single plane visualization.

Notes:

  • The underlying mesh is not affected as this is only a visualization.

  • You can create a Slice in the Setup tab and a Simulation tab. In both cases, you can select whether to display the visualization as Points, Surface, Surface with Edges or Wireframe. In the Simulation tab, you have an additional Color By dropdown to choose the flow quantity to show on the surfaces of your visualization.
