Use a Line to sample data inside a volume and visualize a quantity over a specified location. You can use lines as an input source to create XY Plots.

  1. Click on the toolbox in the Visualization toolbar, then click Line. This will open up the tool in the properties panel and create a visual aid showing the location and orientation of the line within the 3D Viewer.

  2. Set the location, size, and orientation of the line by entering values for each point. Point 1 represents the rounded end of the line while Point 2 represents the pointed arrow end of the line. Alternatively, click and drag on either end of the line to adjust the size or click and drag the entire line in the 3D Viewer to the desired location.

  3. Set the Sample method. Uniformly will sample points uniformly across the line you defined while At Mesh Resolution will sample points for each cell inside the volume that the line intersects.

  4. (Optional) If you selected Uniformly as the sample method, set the Resolution. For example, setting this value to 1000 will create 1000 data points across the line you defined. Any of the points outside of the volume won't be sampled because they do not contain valid data.

  5. Click the check button to apply the settings.

  6. Create an XY Plot to visualize the data.
