Volume Outputs

Specify volume-reduced quantities for monitoring and post-processing with a volume output.

Updated over a week ago

This output type can be useful for understanding things like average temperature or velocity throughout a volume.

  1. Select which Quantity you wish to calculate. The quantities available depend on your simulation settings.

  2. Choose a Volume Reduction Type:

    1. Volume Averaging: A volume-weighted average of the quantity is performed over the selected volumes.

    2. Minimum or Maximum: The min or max value of the quantity in the mesh cells and boundary surfaces.

  3. (Optional) Calculate and plot a Trailing Average, specifying the Averaging Iterations, which is the number of iterations to include in this average.

  4. From the Calculation drop down, choose between:

    1. Aggregate: The reduction takes place over all volumes.

    2. Per Volume: One value is plotted per volume in the list of volumes.

  5. Click Edit, then scroll up to the Volumes section of the control panel to select the volumes you’d like to include.

  6. Click Done.

You can create volume outputs before or after running a simulation. In a results tab, you can use the monitor plot drop down to view a plot of your chosen quantity.
