Automatic Contact Detection

Quickly create interfaces with automatic contact detection.

Updated over a week ago

This is an Early Access feature that is still under development. View the Luminary Cloud Early Access Terms. It may not be compatible with all CAD files and there could be dataloss or backwards compatibility issues as we further develop this feature.

You can use Automatic Contact Detection to help you define interfaces between surfaces that are in contact, such as fluid and solid domains for conjugate heat transfer analysis or moving and stationary parts.

  1. After uploading CAD, find the Contacts section in the Geometry panel.

  2. Click the + icon and select Compute Contacts.

  3. When the contacts have been identified, the properties panel will show you which surfaces have been assigned to side A and side B. Then you can create the interface:

    1. If creating an interface between two fluid volumes or two solid volumes, click the + icon next to Boundary Conditions under your fluid or solid physics, then select Interfaces from Contacts.

    2. If creating a multiphysics coupling (interface between a fluid and solid volume), click the + icon next to Multiphysics Coupling and select Coupling Interfaces from Contacts.

Important: This feature is only compatible with continuous, imprinted CAD files.
