Platform Navigation

Learn how to navigate Luminary.

Updated over a week ago

Set up and run simulations, view results and apply visualizations, and perform account administration tasks from within your web browser. The following sections explain what you will find on each page of the app and how to navigate throughout the platform.

Get Started

If it's your first time logging in to the app, you'll be taken to the Get Started page. This page includes helpful links and instructions for first-time users.

The next time you log in, you'll be redirected to the Projects Summary page. You can always return to the Get Started page by clicking on the icon on the left side of the page. To expand the left-hand menu, hover over the divider and click on the arrow icon, as shown in the image above.

Projects Summary Page

The Projects summary page is your main landing page after logging in. This is where you can create new projects and view, sort, rename, share, or delete existing ones. Clicking on the Luminary logo at the top left of the page will always bring you back to Projects.

On the far right you will see a ... icon when you hover over a project. This menu contains options for managing each project. You can also create and launch a blank project by clicking the New Project button.

On the far left you will see icons for things like Get Started, Library, My Account, and Administration. This menu can be expanded or collapsed by hovering over the dividing line and clicking on the arrow.

Projects

Projects contain three tabs: Geometry (if you are starting with a CAD file), Setup, and Results.

When you open a new or existing project, you'll start in the Geometry tab if you've uploaded CAD, or the Setup tab if you've uploaded a mesh. If you've already run simulations, you'll also see the Results tab at the top of the page.

As you configure a project, your progress is auto-saved.

Geometry

This tab is where you upload geometry and make modifications, if needed. You can add, delete, transform, imprint, and perform boolean operations on your geometry. Learn more about geometry modification here.

When you're done modifying your geometry, click Load to Setup to progress to the Setup tab.

Setup

This tab is where you configure your simulation. Key components of the Setup tab are:

  • Geometry: This panel is located on the left side of the page. You can view the surfaces and volumes in your mesh or CAD, or create new disks, monitor points, and monitor planes. The top level Geometry header will show the name of the CAD or mesh you uploaded.

  • 3D Viewer: This is where your mesh or CAD file is displayed. There are options at the bottom of the page to adjust the view or take a screenshot.

  • Visualization Toolbar: This sits at the top of the 3D Viewer and contains a smaller subset of visualization tools when you're in the Setup tab. You can adjust the display of your mesh or CAD, use the probe, slice, or clip tools, or extract/select surfaces and volumes.

  • Control Panel: This is on the right side of the page and is where you can access and edit simulation settings, outputs, and other options. This is where you'll find Explorations and the Run Simulation button.

  • Properties Panel: When you select different sections from within the control panel or tools from within the Visualization toolbar, the options for setting them up will be displayed below the control panel in the properties section.

Results

This tab is where you can view a list and key details about all of the simulations you've run in your project. Double-click on a simulation in the list to open it in a new Simulation tab.

Simulations

This tab displays the progress or results of a simulation. It will be automatically opened when you launch a new simulation, but can also be opened from the Results tab. It shares much of its structure with the Setup tab. Compared to the Setup tab, the Visualization toolbar here has an expanded set of options and tools. Additional components include:

  • Run Status: Information about the status of the simulation and how many iterations have been run.

  • Output Monitors: Charts showing the evolution of the residuals and outputs with time or iterations.

  • Outputs Summary: Current values of the residuals and outputs for the simulation.

My Account

Your account information can be accessed by clicking on My Account on the left side of the projects summary page. This is where you can toggle notifications on or off and view your usage.

Administration

The Administration page can be accessed by clicking on Administration on the left side of the projects summary page to expand the menu. Depending on your account level (user or admin) you will see different options here. More information on administering your account can be found here.
