Exporting Results

Learn how to export simulation data from the Luminary Cloud platform.

Updated over 2 months ago

You can download surface and volume data containing the results of your simulation that you can use for external analysis in your own post-processing tools. You can choose from the following:

  • Download current chart data will download a CSV file of the residuals and output monitors.

  • Surface Data will download a compressed file of the solution data on each surface in Kitware's VTK open, unstructured grid VTU format (which uses VTK XML). Data from each surface will be saved to a separate file and the folder containing these files will be compressed as a .tar.gz file.

  • Volume Data, like Surface Data, will download a compressed file of the solution data from each volume in VTU format. Data from each volume will be saved to a separate file and the folder containing these files will be compressed as a TAR file. When you download volume data from a transient simulation, data from the currently displayed timestep will be downloaded.

Learn more about the included variables below.

Downloading Data

  1. In a project, navigate to the Results tab.

  2. Open a simulation.

  3. Find the Download dropdown at the bottom of the page, just below the 3D Viewer.

  4. Select Download Current Chart Data, Surface Data, or Volume Data.

Important: It may take a few minutes for the download to begin. Stay in the simulation until the download begins.

Surface and Volume Data Variables

The following variables are available in surface and volume data downloads:

  • Static Pressure

  • Absolute Pressure

  • Velocity

  • Temperature (except for constant density simulations)

  • Density (ideal gas simulations only)

  • Mach (ideal gas simulations only)

  • Turbulence variables:

    • If using Spalart-Allmaras: Spalart-Allmaras Variable

    • If using SST: Turbulent Kinetic Energy, Specific Dissipation Rate

  • Transition Model variables:

    • If using Fully Turbulent: n/a

    • If using Gamma-2015: Turbulence Intermittency

    • If using Gamma-Re-theta-2009: Turbulence Intermittency, Momentum-Thickness Reynolds Number

  • Q-criterion (except for inviscid simulations)

  • Eddy Viscosity (except for inviscid or laminar simulations)

  • IBlank (overset simulations only)

  • Grid Velocity (moving volumes)

For transient simulations with compute statistics set to ON:

  • Pressure Average

  • Temperature Average (except for constant density simulations)

  • Velocity average

  • Wall shear stress average (surface data downloads only, except for inviscid simulations)

Surface Data Only Variables

The following variables are available only in a surface data download:

  • Heat Flux (except for constant density simulations)

  • Wall Shear Stress (except for inviscid simulations)

  • Y Plus (except for inviscid or laminar simulations)

  • Roughness Reynolds Number (except for inviscid or laminar simulations)

  • Disks (located in a separate Disks directory, point data only)
