Adjust Reference Values

Adjust the values that your outputs are based on.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Reference Values are the values that your outputs are based on. You can adjust these values before you run your simulation or in the Results tab. Any quantities that depend on those reference values will be automatically updated, and some of them are displayed in the window at the bottom of the page.

  • Area is used for computing force and moment coefficients.

  • Length is used for computing moment coefficients.

  • Available Values allows you to sync reference values with prescribed values or far field values.

  • Absolute Static Pressure is used for computing force and moment coefficients and is independent from the simulation's reference pressure.

  • Temperature is used for computing force and moment coefficients.

  • ‍Velocity Magnitude is used for computing force and moment coefficients.

To adjust the reference values:

  1. Expand the Outputs section in the control panel from within the Setup tab or the Results tab.

  2. Select Reference Values.

  3. In the properties panel, adjust the values for Area, Length, Absolute Static Pressure, Temperature, and Velocity Magnitude.

Note: The Reynold's Number is automatically calculated and displayed under Non Dimensional Quantities based on the provided reference values.

Optionally, you can set independent reference lengths for Pitch, Yaw, and Roll:

  1. Select the Pitch, Roll, Yaw Reference Lengths toggle.

  2. In the dropdown menu, adjust the values for Length (Pitch), Length (Yaw), and Length (Roll).

    • Length (Pitch) is used to normalize the pitching moment.

    • Length (Yaw) is used to normalize the yawing moment.

    • Length (Roll) is used to normalize the rolling moment.
